Hawkshead is the perfect base for exploring the surrounding region with close by Windermere and Coniston, smaller Tarn House and Esthwaite, easily accessible walks, for instance to Hill Top and Sawrey, home of Beatrix Potter to the more demanding Coniston Old Man which sits proud above nearby Coniston Water.
