Beatrix Potter and the
Beatrix Potter Museum
Beatrix Potter the well known writer was a great patron of the Lake District
countryside and was a great admirer of the natural beauty that it offers.
The Beatrix Potter Museum located in Hawkshead is a major tourist attraction.
Sun inn located very close to both the museum and the last residence of
Beatrix Potter. In fact many people attribute Lake District’s unspoilt
beauty to the fact that Beatrix Potter donated all of her land and possession
to the National Trust. That allowed the trust to preserve the natural
beauty and country side that Beatrix Potter admired and loved. The museum
contains
- Original story book illustrations by Beatrix Potter
- Fascinating exhibition on the life of a beloved children's author
- Atmospheric 17th-century Lakeland town house
- Popular children's quizzes and goodie bags
The Lake District represents everything the famous Beatrix Potter fell in
love with when she moved to the lake district from London.
William Wordsworth
Hawkshead Grammar School was founded in 1585, its most famous pupil
being a young William Wordsworth, and within the school visitors can see
the poet's desk, into which he carved his name.
"Here did he sit confined for hours;
But he could see the woods and plains,
Could hear the wind and mark the showers
Come streaming down the streaming panes"
William Wordsworth, 'Address to the Scholars of the Village School', 1798
